Jesse vs Hunter.io: which should you pick?
Pick Jesse if your problem is which companies to contact this week.
You want companies that just did something: raised a round, opened a location, pulled a permit, started hiring. You want to describe that buyer in one sentence and get the evidence attached to every row.
Pick Hunter.io if you already know the company and need the right email.
You have a list of domains or names. You want each address found with its public source, verified before you send, and mailed from a sequence with HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive in sync.
Hunter answers "what is this person's email, and is it safe to send?" Jesse answers "which companies should I contact right now, and why?"

Why choose Jesse over Hunter.io?
How is Jesse's live search different from Hunter's Discover and Signals?
Hunter has real company-search and signal features. Discover searches companies by location, industry, size and keywords, with technology, funding and similar-company filters on paid plans. Its AI Assistant turns a prompt into a search whose filters you can then adjust.
Hunter Signals monitors companies for three signal types, each with criteria you set: funding and acquisitions, job openings and company updates. Hunter's help center says it scans continuously and notifies you of new results every 48 hours. Signals are free to set up, with limits by plan, from 10 on Free to 200 on Growth.
Jesse works the other way round. You describe the event in plain English, such as "Dental groups in Texas that opened a new location in the last 60 days." Jesse searches the live web for it and returns each company with a dated source.
How fresh is Jesse's data compared with Hunter.io's?
Hunter keeps a stored index, built by crawling. Hunter says it crawls 30M pages a day and that Domain Search shows where and when each address was found. Hunter says it removes contact data six months after it loses its public sources.
Jesse keeps no stored list to refresh. Every query runs against the live internet, so a company can appear as soon as the web reports the event. The trade-off is honest: Jesse is built for discovering accounts, and Hunter is built for reaching people at a known domain.
How accurate is Hunter.io, and what do reviews say?
Hunter.io reviews are mostly positive. As of 11 October 2026, Hunter holds 4.4 out of 5 from 656 reviews on G2. Ease of use is the top praised theme (39 mentions), followed by accuracy in finding and validating emails (22).
The top complaints are pricing that can become expensive (10 mentions), limited credits (9) and poor data quality (6). Hunter says it "usually observe[s] a bounce rate lower than 1%" for recently verified valid addresses. It publishes no overall accuracy rate, so test 50 records against your own ICP.
Does Hunter.io give you phone numbers?
Only in a limited way. Hunter's pricing page lists no phone plan or phone credit cost. Its API returns a phone number for some contacts. Its Discover FAQ says phone numbers are linked to personal emails only and "results are limited." Jesse sells phone enrichment from Pro, at 30 credits per number with the email included.

How do Hunter.io credits work?
Hunter runs one credit pool for search, verification and enrichment. An email found through Domain Search or Email Finder costs 1 credit. Bulk Domain Search costs 1 credit for up to 10 emails a domain, and a verification costs 0.5.
Hunter charges nothing when it cannot find or verify an email. The same search in one billing period counts once, but bulk uploads always use credits. Discover and Signals are free to browse; credits apply when you reveal an email.
Hunter's pricing page says credits "reset monthly and don't roll over." Yearly plans get all 12 months of credits upfront instead. On Starter and above, extra credit packs start at $10 and expire after 3 months. Jesse has one credit meter: a search costs 10 credits, an email 5, and a phone number 30 with the email included.
Where Hunter.io is the better choice
- Emails with their source attached. Hunter's Domain Search shows the public pages where each address was found, and when. Its Email Finder labels guessed addresses, and its verifier runs 9 checks without sending an email.
- Cheaper emails at volume. By our calculation, Hunter's 25,000 monthly Scale credits work out to about 1.2¢ per email found on monthly billing, or 0.8¢ billed yearly. On Jesse's $100 Max plan, billed monthly, an email costs about 1.7¢ before any search credits.
- Finding, verifying and sending in one account. Hunter Sequences send up to 5 follow-ups from 1 to 20 email accounts. Paid plans add A/B testing and an AI Writing Assistant. Jesse finds the buyer and stops there.
- CRM sync and an extension out of the box. Hunter lists native HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and Zoho CRM integrations. It adds a Google Sheets add-on and a free browser extension. Jesse has none of these; its API, MCP and n8n access start at $29.
- Teams on one plan. Every Hunter plan, including Free, includes unlimited team members. Jesse includes one seat per plan.
Where Jesse is the better choice
- Finding companies by an event you describe. Hunter Signals tracks three signal types: funding and acquisitions, job openings and company updates. Jesse finds companies by events the web reports, such as a new location, a permit, a listing, a local news story.
- A reason to reach out on every row. Each Jesse result carries a dated rationale and a named source. That gives the first line of the email before you open a sequence.
- Phone numbers on a published plan. Hunter's pricing page lists no phone plan or phone credit cost. Jesse Pro offers phone enrichment from $9 a month, at 30 credits per number.
- A lower monthly entry price. Jesse Pro is $9 a month, billed monthly, with CSV export and enrichment. Hunter's Starter plan is $49 a month, or $408 paid yearly.
- Company search on the free plan. Jesse's free plan gives 1,000 credits for search, about 100 searches, with no card. Hunter's free plan renews 50 credits a month, which go to finding and verifying emails.
